Car Stories Project at British Motor Museum

I am delighted to announce that I have been selected to curate an exhibition that will launch the new Museum Collection Centre in the autumn of this year. The MCC is currently being built and is located in the same grounds as the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon.

Please click the link for the  Car Stories Project which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, to find out how you can get involved.

I have taken my experience of working with ‘Opera Estate’ in Bassano del Grappa, Italy,  with the European Cultural Foundation for  ‘Boxing Project‘ and also  with Arts Council England where, I created reminiscence projects in London.  For Car Stories, I will be creating an exhibition that will  include all generations, cultures and genders.

Currently I am looking for any amazing stories from owners of cars, from the timeline of the ownership of the car to travel experiences with the car or where it was used,  any human stories relating to cars and discover how they shape our life experiences. I will be making an exhibition from all of my findings in the form of letters, drawings, audio clips to photography, cine films and various objects relating to the cars.

I am also looking for 2 ‘dead’ British cars; one to take apart and one to keep whole. Cars that can be ‘given’ over to Art. Cars that on the surface looks fairly ok but has fundamental flaws such as no engine, or a ‘right off’ to use within my exhibition.  Great kudos can be awarded to the owners for providing their cars for art…

If you would like to take part in this exciting project with stories or even donate a British car for me, then please contact Lara Platman at the Heritage Motor Centre by sending an email to museum@heritage-motor-centre.co.uk with CAR STORIES in the subject bar.

Deadline to be able to take part in the project (to be included in the autumn exhibition) is MAY 2015.
