Harris Tweed, From Land to Street

Author: Lara Platman  Foreword by: Patrick Grant
Format: Paperback / softback, 144 Pages  ISBN: 9780711235625

Harris Tweed is a unique woollen textile that has been hand-woven by islanders off the west coast of Scotland for generations. Worn worldwide, it is cherished both for the clothing made from it and as a fascinating traditional craft.

Lara Platman spent a year with the farmers, mill workers, weavers, tailors and designers who are carrying this tradition forward into the twenty-first century and in Harris Tweed: From Land to Street she follows the chain of craftsmen, from the islanders in the Hebrides to the tailors of Savile Row. With an eye for character, colour and light, and an ear for a good story, she has created extraordinary portraits of these living national treasures, complemented by evocative images of the landscapes of Harris, the tweed patterns whose textures and colours seem to emerge from the land, and the use of Harris tweed in the work of fashion designers including Vivienne Westwood, Margaret Howell and Paul Smith. Offering insights into a lifestyle whose continued existence may surprise many, this group portrait is a heartfelt celebration of craftsmanship and a way of life.

Through the Night, the passion of motorsport
Landscape, 10×8 in, 25×20 cm  40 Pages UK softback edition.

The theatre of the pit lane is something of a magical experience, hidden from the crowds in the grandstand, the drivers, mechanics and engineers all work towards winning the race.

My first night time event was the Spa Six Hours where, I fell in love with my Leica Noctilux lens, providing me with such detail from utilising simple car headlamps. Visiting the Monte Carlo Rally Historic, Hitching a lift to the FIA World Endurance Championship Series at Le Mans for the 24 hours race, I slept in a car trailer empty of its Ferrari. A lifestyle editorial piece commissioned for the Nurburgring 24 hour race allowed me to walk around the Nordschleife Forest to witness the motor sport fans. Through the Night is a selection of my favourite photographs from these races. Some commissioned and others taken out of pure curiosity.
